Doreen Harper
Owner, Harper Studios
Doreen Harper has lived in Des Moines, Washington since 2005. Originally from Portland, Oregon she moved to Seattle to attend the Art Institute of Seattle where she met her husband, Earl. Doreen pursued a career that focused on her love of nature and respect for the environment. In 1995, Doreen received her Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Science from the University of Washington. During her time at the UW, she took every opportunity to do field work as an undergraduate assistant. She collected data on small mammals in Southeast Alaska, worked on the recovery and release of the endangered Black-footed Ferret in Wyoming and spent two summers working on the Pygmy Rabbit project near Ephrata, Washington.
As life evolved Doreen opted to join efforts in support of Earl’s professional photography career. With hard work and entrepreneurial vision, Doreen and Earl started Harper Studios, Inc., a commercial & advertising photo studio in the Georgetown Neighborhood of Seattle. Currently they are in the process of re-locating their business to Des Moines in order to enjoy more free time and a smaller financial foot print. They also own a three acre farm not far from downtown Des Moines with horses, chickens, dogs and vegetable crops.
Doreen is actively involved in issues at the local and state level especially when injustice and/or the environment are of concern. She encourages local community members to get involved whether it’s local politics and issues or a fun event happening in town.
